NIH-Funded Research Opportunities in the Chatterjee Laboratory
The Chatterjee Laboratory at the University of Maryland, Baltimore is seeking two Postdoctoral Fellows, one Laboratory Research Technician, and one Post-Baccalaureate Fellow to join an NIH-sponsored research program investigating the mechanistic basis of antibiotic resistance in Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA) and its role in bacterial pathogenesis.
These positions offer opportunities to address fundamental and clinically important questions in bacterial pathogenesis and antimicrobial resistance while collaborating with leading investigators in the field. Successful candidates will develop independent research projects commensurate with their experience and expertise, with the expectation that these projects will lead to peer-reviewed publications.
Research Focus
The laboratory seeks to understand:
- Molecular mechanisms underlying antibiotic resistance in MRSA
- The relationship between antibiotic resistance and bacterial pathogenesis
- Novel determinants of host-pathogen interactions
- Mechanisms that contribute to bacterial adaptation and survival

Postdoctoral Fellows (2 Positions)
Qualifications
- Doctoral degree in Microbiology, Molecular Biology, Biochemistry, Biomedical Sciences, or a related field.
- Demonstrated success in conducting mechanistic research in bacterial pathogenesis.
- Experience working with Staphylococcus aureus or related Gram-positive bacteria is desirable.
- Ability to work independently, interpret datasets, and think critically.
- Strong collaborative skills and willingness to work within multidisciplinary teams.

Hiring range: $63,480 - $63,900 per year (depending on academic rank and commensurate with education and experience).
